What You’ll Accomplish

By the end of this guide, you’ll have:
  • Created your first DevTune project
  • Added prompts to track your brand in AI search
  • Run your first AI search tracking test
  • Understood your key visibility metrics

Step 1: Create Your Account (1 minute)

If you haven’t already, sign up for DevTune. The Plus plan includes a 14-day free trial with no card required. Add a payment method in billing settings to continue after the trial. After signing up and creating or joining a team, you’ll be taken to the project creation wizard.

Step 2: Create Your First Project (3 minutes)

The activation wizard guides you through seven steps. The three sensor steps can be skipped and connected later.

Step 2a: Product

Enter your product name and primary domain. Choose a clear name that represents what you’re tracking. For example:
  • “Acme Analytics”
  • “My SaaS Product”
  • “Company Website”
DevTune analyzes that domain and uses it to generate product context, competitor suggestions, and prompt suggestions. Good product context includes:
  • What problem your product solves
  • Who your target users are
  • Key features and capabilities
  • What category or type of tool it is

Step 2b: Competitors

Add at least one competitor brand and their domains. This enables Share of Voice comparisons and competitive analysis from your first run.

Step 2c: Prompts

Review the brand context DevTune generated and edit it if needed, then select the prompts you want to track across AI platforms. Confirming the prompts starts your first probe run. Good prompts to start with:
  • “What’s the best [your category] tool?”
  • “How do I [common task your product solves]?”
  • “Compare [your product] vs [competitor]”
Tip: Start with 5-10 prompts. You can always add more later from the Prompts tab in Insights › Visibility, or refine your project setup in Settings.

Step 2d: Search Console, GA4, and Cloudflare

Three sensor steps follow. Connect the Search Console property and GA4 property that match your domain, and a Cloudflare zone if your site is proxied through Cloudflare. Choose Skip and configure later on any of them and connect it afterwards from Settings › Integrations. If you use PostHog rather than GA4, skip the GA4 step and connect PostHog there.

Step 2e: Finish

The final step confirms the project is ready and shows your first probe results and highest-priority action. DevTune queries the AI platforms with your selected prompts. The available platforms depend on your plan tier:
  • Plus - ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini
  • Pro and above - ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Bing Copilot
This typically takes 2-5 minutes depending on how many prompts you have.

Step 3: Understand Your Results

Select Open project to go to the project’s Home. Get started at the top lists what is left in your first pass through the loop, and the Visibility tile shows your presence rate once the first answers arrive. Open Insights › Visibility for the full set of metrics:

Overall Presence Rate

The percentage of AI search responses where your tracked URLs appear. This is your primary visibility metric showing how often AI platforms reference your content.

Share of Voice

Your citations as a share of your citations plus your tracked competitors’ citations, across your tracked prompts. Citations of other sources are not counted, so this is your position against the competitors you chose, not your share of everything cited.

Sentiment Score

How positively or negatively AI platforms describe your brand when they mention it. Higher scores indicate more favorable mentions.

Secondary Metrics

As you explore deeper, you’ll also find:
  • Brand Mentions - How frequently your brand name appears directly in AI response text
  • Top of Answer - The percentage of times your domain appears as the first citation
  • Avg Citation Rank - Your average citation position when cited (lower is better)
  • Primary Citation Share - How often you are the primary citation among all cited sources

What’s Next?

Now that you have your first results:
  1. Review Suggestions - Open Actions for evidence-backed suggestions, and select Accept on the one you want to work on
  2. Set Up Alerts - Get notified when your visibility changes significantly
  3. Review Explore and Prompts - Use the tabs in Insights › Visibility to inspect trends, citations, and prompt-level performance
  4. Check Back Regularly - DevTune runs scheduled probes to track trends over time
